As of today, we’ve completed the first week of the ChaLean Extreme Push Phase workouts!
While we both enjoyed the Burn Phase, the Push Phase is more our speed. Instead of lifting heavy for 10-12 slow reps, we lift even heavier for 8 very slow reps. I’m breaking out the 15 and 20 pound dumbbells now. Mr. Coffee is lifting 25-35 pounds but could probably use some heavier ones (if we owned them).
The reason we enjoy the Push Phase more is because we’re concentrating on single moves. The combo moves of Burn phase (while effective) were a bit “much” for novice weightlifting at 4:30 a.m. I don’t think I’m meant to squat AND do a bicep curl at the same time. I fall over simply don’t have the balance. These single moves allow us the stability to be able to lift a heavier weight. I can curl 25 pounds. I can’t curl 25 pounds while doing a squat, bowler’s lunge, etc. Well, I could, but then someone would need to take me to the ER because I fell over and the weight landed on me.
In other news…..
We plan to weigh and measure this weekend….maybe. We’re both adjusting our diets further due to lack of weight loss. That said, according to Count Trackula, our fantastic EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale I have gained muscle! Not a ton, but progress is progress! Now to work on losing fat! We’ve both pretty sure we know what we’re going to have to do diet-wise but that’s a post for a different day.
Why can’t it be as simple as it was in our 20′s? Eat a little less, move a little more and all of a sudden our pants were loose.
Those were the days.

Don’t you think part of the difference between now and when we were 20,( other than the obvious, that our metabolisms have all decided to go on a Western Caribbean cruise together,) is that we have more sense? When I was 20 I might just eat jujubes and popcorn for a few days if I wanted to lose 5 pounds, and I won’t do stupid stuff like that anymore, no matter how desperate I get. My health is now more impt than how I look. A healthy perspective, but it can sometimes lead to slow weight loss.

Very true! I used to eat a bowl of pasta some days and that would be it….in college. No way could/would I do that now!

Count Trackula. I love it. I agree with you on the single move thing. I know it’s very in now to do the combination moves in weight lifting, and I get it – more like real life, yada, yada, yada. But I am afraid I would break myself somehow doing the combo moves. I’m old school.

I hope you see some results! How is the salad plate working for you?
I know the weekends are still a problem for us. And guess what we’re planning to eat this weekend. Pizza. Maybe I watch my family eat pizza.
