I’ve been rattling on ad nauseum about my cracked teeth and paleo dentistry. Today, I want to tell you a story about pirate dentistry. Ahoy mateys!
Today was Half Caff’s first dental checkup. She did great! Latte prepped her for days and told her that going to the “pirate” dentist was a lot of fun.
Pirates? Yep, our kids go to a practice that has a pirate ship in their lobby. The entire office is decked out in tropical fish, oars, coves, and treasure chests. Argh, it’s a mighty good time me hearties!
Before long, the girls were seated in side by side chairs getting their checkups and cleanings. Half Caff was very excited. Everyone made a big deal about it being her first time there.
After a glowing report, Half Caff thought going over to tickle Latte during her exam seemed like the best idea.
Then, it was off for some pirate booty at the treasure chests! Each girl received a sticker, small toy, toothbrush, and floss. They both love this part of pirate dentistry!
Afterwards, we went out for burgers to celebrate good checkups and no cavities!
Oh, and there might have been a trip to Target and a side step over to the Starbucks might have been involved. What can I say? Mama needs her caffeine after a morning of wondering whether or not Half Caff would sit still or come up swinging at the hygienist. Honestly, it could have gone either way.
The afternoon ended with swim class. Latte and Half Caff have progressed so much this summer. Latte in particular went from being scared to get her face wet to swimming all over the pool and doing cannonballs off the side.
The first time she went off this diving board, she looked like a doomed pirate walking the plank. Now, she can’t wait to jump!
I WANT THAT DENTIST TOO.

I need to take my kids to the dentist too. Looking for a fun one….I wonder if there is a pirate dentist in Colorado?

Connie – not sure where you are in Colorado. We go to Children’s Dentisry in Arvada – they have a huge castle in their office. Dr. Nell Barr and her staff are amazing!

What fun! It’s hard enough for adults to do the doctor/dentist thing and it’s got to be 10 times worse for kiddos!
I love when there are offices that cater to the kids…and boy oh boy…could you imagine if they had offices that catered to adults?

They should put open bars in all dentist’s office and you should be allowed to arrive there two hours before your scheduled appointment. Root canal, no problem! Just let me finish this 4th glass of wine.
