Tonsillectomy Recovery – Day 4

Today has been weird. I woke up in terrible pain and took my medicine about 6:30 and went back to sleep until 8:00 a.m. At that point, I was still in pain and it was time for my other medicine (I layer Toradol and Lortab) so I took it. About an hour later, I could tell I was waaaaay over-medicated.

I skipped a Lortab dose today to let my system flush out a bit and it’s been ok. The pain isn’t terrible and I feel less drugged. I think I would prefer to feel a little pain instead of being over-medicated. At least, I feel that way for now.

I’ve slept most of the day and watched daytime television. I can tell you now, I have no interest in keeping up with the Kardashians. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy the return of Dallas to prime time television last night. Looking forward to watching more of J.R.’s antics during the ten episode summer season. Can’t believe it will be that short!

Tonight, is Game 2 of the NBA Finals and I really hope I can stay awake long enough to watch the game. Time to Thunder UP!

Today’s tonsillectomy recovery tip: Ice Water….steady drinking of 100 oz or so all day long. It works much better for me than Popsicles which sting a bit.

Updated to say: Delaying pain meds was a big mistake…..huge. Better to not feel my face from over medication than to feel that much pain. Whoa!
